This blog is about entertainment, books, films, trips, music, environment, gastronomy and news in English. If you haven't read "The Catcher in the Rye", this is the right time to do it. The death of JD Salinger is a sad moment for literature. The novel, a tale of a rebellious and lonely teenager who has been expelled from school for his poor grades, published in 1951, has sold over 60 million copies and sells
thousands every year. The novel is very controversial and has been banned in some schools because ot its bad language and antiauthoritarian stance.
The writer himself has been a mysterious individual who has lived in seclusion. What has he been doing in the last 55 years before he died? John Walsh, a journalist who works for The Independent, and many like him, wonder whether there's more writing in the drawer that might have been written while he was withdrawn from the world.
Meet Holden Caufield, the protagonist, and you will understand why Salinger's voice is so powerful.

Like a Joglars play
"La Cena" by Els Joglars opened at Principal Theatre Last Wednesday . Today as I heard the news about how a few people made illigal business with the Pope visit to Valencia in June 2006 I was reminded of comedies such as "Teledeum" and "Operació Ubú". Is this real? The Gürtel network pocketed a million euros with the Pope visit. "La Cena" will be on until November 3rd. Although you may disagree with the message, a satire of the evironemental friendly politicians, the play is worth seeing.
Here you can find a useful activity for your advanced students, although it can be adapted for intermediate and beginners.
The idea is that they use the links on the left hand side of the poster to find information and then write the article. In this way they develop both reading and writing skills, besides practising other subskills such as finding indormation, selecting and organising it.
For beginners the activity can be filling boxes for each day and writing a list. For intermediate students the activity can be a letter from one travel agent in London to another in Valencia telling him/her about the best plan for each of the four days.
